According to a
recent publication in Addiction, approximately, 6.1 million Europeans have quitsmoking by seeking the help of vaping. This is just an estimation and the study
needs to focus more of the data that reveals the benefits of vaping. It is
important because of the new regulations of e-cigarette that has been rolling
all over the USA and Europe. The rules claim to threaten the entire e-smoking
industry.
What the data reveal?
According to the
data collected in 2014, after a deep analysis, researchers have found that 2%
respondents are presently practicing e-smoking an 14% have been able to quit
smoking successfully after choosing vaping. In the Addiction paper, the
research was made more further and thus the results found were impressive.
35% of the
former smokers were able to quit, from the respondents who are still using
e-cigarettes. Of the respondents who have claimed to e-smoke daily, 30.6% have
successfully quit smoking in comparison to 8.9% who vaped only once a week or
even less. The researchers also claimed that approximately 6.1 million people
have quit smoking via vaping and 9.2 million have been able to reduce the
intake by becoming dual smokers.
The logic is
that millions of people have tried and also failed to abstain smoking with the
use of e-cigarettes and also by using other tools. About 23% people are
successful quit smoking via the prescribed medical drugs and 6% through
nicotine patches and gums.
According to the
Pfizer representatives, an anti-smoking drug, Chantix had been recommended to
around 22 million people across the globe since its entry in the market. 23% is
the success rate, which means that 5 million people have stopped smoking via
the drug, on par with the concept of vaping and other quit smoking technology
available.
Is e-smoking really effective?
It is said that the report has limitations
as the 6 million people estimated to have stopped smoking is just an estimated
analysis, moreover, the survey was done in an interview style involving around
28,000 people and it was all self reported. The report says, “ Although surveys
and studies of users display that several smokers were successful to quitsmoking via e-cigarettes, random collections have shown modest outcomes and
thus the efficacy of e-cigarettes have been questioned.”
Furthermore, it has been added, “it is not
practical to expect an experimental use of e-cigarettes as an effective smoking
cessation tool. There are surveys that fail to differentiate between the
regular and the experimental use and the outcome is the overestimation of the
efficiency and the underestimation of the smoking substitute efficacy.
